Q. |
I understand I have to use a network dentist. Who provides the dental care services for this plan?
|
|
A. |
SafeGuard contracts with private practice dentists who meet the high quality standards we set to ensure you receive the best dental care available.
Dentists who contract with SafeGuard must meet state regulations regarding office cleanliness, appointment availability, and proper oral treatment as well as SafeGuard set standards. SafeGuard contracted dentists are pre-screened before being accepted into the network and must go through the process again every few years. By doing this, SafeGuard is able to provide you the quality service you deserve.

Q. |
Do I have a waiting period on this plan? |
|
A. |
Your organization may have a waiting period before you are eligible to enroll in the SafeGuard plan but there are no waiting periods once you enroll.
|
Q. |
I haven't received my ID card yet, do I need it to receive services? |
|
A. |
A temporary SafeGuard ID card is included in your enrollment kit. Your permanent card will be sent to you upon receipt of your enrollment application.
You do not need your ID card to receive services; SafeGuard's network of dentists can check eligibility directly through SafeGuard.

My children want to see a dentist near their school. Does everyone in my family have to go to the same dentist? |
|
A. |
SafeGuard's individual selection feature allows you and your dependents the opportunity to select different dentists.

Q. |
My dentist says I need more than just a routine cleaning. What is a "routine cleaning"? |
| |
A. |
A "routine cleaning" involves the removal of normal amounts of tartar build-up and the polishing of teeth to remove stains. Routine cleanings are provided to members who have had regular dental checkups and cleanings and who are taking reasonable care of their teeth at home.
Members who experience a change in oral health, i.e. the development of periodontal disease, often require more extensive treatment. Your dentist will evaluate the best treatment for your oral health.

Q. |
What if I need to see a specialist? |
| |
A. |
Specialty care services are available only when the dental procedure cannot be performed by your Selected General Dentist due to the severity of the problem. How you access specialty care is determined by your plan. Some plans allow self-referral while others require that your Selected General Dentist refer you to a specialist. Please consult your Schedule of Benefits for full information.
